Our Minister

Rev Vernon Marshall

Most services are taken by our minister,

Rev. Dr. Vernon Marshall MA. MPhil. BTh. BD. DMin.

Rev. Dr. Vernon Marshall became Minister of Dean Row Chapel in October 2008 after ministries in Scarborough & Whitby, Birmingham, Croydon, and, more recently, Dukinfield and Denton.

A South Yorkshireman, son of a disabled coal miner, Vernon began adult life working in a wet fish shop. After a number of temporary jobs, including a stint as a beach photographer in Scarborough, an insurance agent, and a hotel kitchen assistant, and several periods of unemployment, he trained to be a school teacher. He taught for a short while in Further Education before training for the ministry at the Unitarian College, Manchester. Since then he has acquired 5 degrees, the most recent being a Doctorate of Ministry from the University of Derby.

He has written several books on Unitarian history and worship and has also turned his hand to creative writing. Though having a strong academic background, Vernon still feels strongly attached to his roots and seeks to promote a religious outlook that is based on human experience rather than intellectual debate.

He enjoys devising services that are tailor-made for weddings, baptisms, funerals, and other ceremonies particular to individual needs.

He is married to Martine, a Parisian, and has a grown up daughter, Laura.

Dr. Marshall is also minister at our sister chapel at Halebarns www.halechapel.org. For further information about our minister see http://doctorvernon.googlepages.com.
