Capel y Bryn is in the village
of Cwrtnewydd. A building, known as Capel Bryn Bach, was built for the
congregation in 1833 in the locality and the present building was
erected in 1881. There are farm houses where Unitarian Services have
been held over the years - Crugmaen near Gorsgoch (c.1716);
Brynllefrith, on the hillside facing the present Capel y Bryn and
Brynyreglwys from where the small congregation decided to build the
first chapel. The old school buildings were bought by the congregation
from the County Education Committee and were well used for community
purposes, but they have now been sold.
The present building, which has
a gallery at the back, is surrounded by a cemetery with a chapel house
to the right of the building. This chapel is, more or less, in the
centre of the thirteen chapels which make up the Black Spot
and the furthest is no more than a twenty minute drive away.
